Nieves Segovia, President of SEK Educational Institution, H.E. Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammad, Minister of Education, and Carmen de la Peña, Spanish Ambassador to Qatar took part in the inauguration of SEK International School Qatar, today in Doha.
The state-of-the-art educational centre opens within the framework of the Supreme Education Council’s Outstanding Schools Program (OSP), SEK Qatar’s distinctive identity will be that of an international and Spanish school serving the local and international communities in Doha.
SEK International School Qatar opened its brand new facilities in West Bay, Doha with 150 Preschool and Primary Education students of 27 nationalities. The language of instruction is English and students will have the opportunity to develop their mastery of Spanish and Arabic. SEK Qatar plans to offer the continuum of the prestigious IB programmes, for students from 3 to 18 years old, a curriculum recognised and highly valued worldwide. Within three years, the school is expected to host 600 pupils.
The school will implement the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), for which SEK International School Qatar is a candidate school. The programme, for students aged 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It encourages international mindedness and a positive attitude to learning through meaningful inquiries into real life issues which seek the development of children physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. The PYP offers a balance between learning about or through the subject areas, and learning beyond them.
SEK International School Qatar has a prestigious faculty composed of 11 different nationalities with an outstanding international teaching experience. The school has conducted an IB PYP professional development workshop to prepare the academic start to start next Sunday.
In labelling SEK as “Outstanding School”, the Qatari government has recognised the pioneering engagement of SEK International Schools with the IB continuum of programmes, dating back 35 years, its advanced methodology of teaching and learning, the Smart Classroom, and its state of the art technological facilities.
